Sugar Cane Train was used as transportation before, and now runs as a sightseeing train between Lahaina and Kaanapali. It’s always introduced on tourist information and seems to be "must-do" thing on Maui. I’ve been wondering how it is and finally tried it in my eighth year on Maui. The conclusion first, it’s cute and enjoyable but not "must-do". Or it’s not something I want to experience repeatedly. I didn’t hate, but I didn’t love. It was good to feel nostalgia and fun, unusual place to talk stories with a friend. It can be added to Lahaina strolling day, but it can be the reason to go Lahaina.
By the way, this is only railroad on Maui.
An old engine, displayed in Lahaina station. Cute!
An engine on the turntable at Lahaina station.
It was a bumpy ride..... uncomfortable, to be honest. The coach was worn with flaked interior. But it was still charming... I’d just love this kind of old things.
The train goes between houses after it leaves Lahaina station, then meets Kaanapali resort. We mostly see golf courses and the ocean beyond.
The train turns around at the other end, Puukolii station. This time they don’t have a turn table. The left, the train is running backward. My friend and I was kind of excited to see it. The center, it shot out water when the train went in front of coaches. The right, we had fun even though we were getting wet.
Going back on the bouncy railroad. A guide shares some storied and sings, plays ukulele, but I couldn’t hear his stories well due to the noise. Ukulele and songs were pleasing.
The train shot out water on a bridge. Plants would love it since it’s dry area.
Golfers were right there..... The right, Buddha for sale... hahaha
I become a typical tourist at everywhere. My friend was accompanied me really well, and so we enjoyed being tourists and took so many pictures.
