Lahaina, which was the capital of Hawaiian kingdom in the 19th century, is protected as a Maui County Historical District and has many historical sights. Front Street is always full of tourists who enjoy cruising shops and art galaries. Many whaling ships used to fill Lahaina Harbor and today fishing and vorious sailing boats take it over. Lahaina also provides casual good dining experience at good restaurants....... This small town shows a lot of faces.
The famous banyan tree in Courthouse Square. Artists often hold art fair under this tree. The Courthouse is one of the historical sights and open for visitors; it has the banyan tree in front like this picture and the Lahaina Habor on the other side.
Lahaina is noted for world-class art market. This picture was taken at one of more than forty art galleries.
I found an information plate introducing Japanese Fish Market back in the first half of the 20th century. It's touching for me because I'm Japanese.
We can see a big letter "L" on the West Maui Mountain. It indicates Lahainaluna high school, which was founded in 1831 as a Protestant missionary school. They have Hawaiian Alma Mater.... and seem to have more history & stories.
Beautiful sunset. Lahaina's hot days cool down around this time. People pause on cruising to enjoy the sunset. The island is Lanai.
